Water Moccasin Bite

The water moccasins are not very aggressive in nature. Their bites are however, painful and could prove to be fatal. These snakes resort to aggressive behavior only when under stress. Water moccasins are likely to bite when a person tries to pick them up. The venom of these snakes contains tissue-destructive enzymes however, is deficient in neurotoxins that are present in venom of various species of rattlesnakes. Swelling and ecchymosis are the symptoms of snake bites. The Crotalidae Polyvalent Immune Fab or CroFab serum is used in the treatment of water moccasin bites. The venom components that are used in the preparation of this serum are extracted from the Mohave rattlesnake, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Western Diamondback Rattlesnake and the Cottonmouth.
